Fitting a fire suppression kit on a combine?

Years ago we had what I think was called a flextinguishe, it was a normal fire extinguisher but had a loop of pipe off the end that was threaded around the engine bay on our combine with the idea that if a fire started the pipe would melt and release the extinguisher contents. Have never seen one since

Fire Pro's are great and saved me twice (not a combine but a crusher).

I recently bought 2 more FP4200 versions and they were about £2700 a piece plus fitting.

Would not be without them but you still need a extinguisher to hand just in case it doesn't get it out.

You also don't want them too sensitive either as when you get the welder out or oxy acet as I did.. then boom!

The best setup for causing minimal damage afterwards are water mist systems, when you see the videos of them work they are fantastic. Wouldn't be too difficult or expensive to rig one up with a manual release.

Having some experience of combine and machine fires some fitted with a fire system on i never had a combine or big baler saved with them.
The better idea is to have water spray system that you can manually use
In my experience low pressure spray worked the best as it did not spread the fire.
If you are unlucky to have a fire on a big machine by the time fire system had gone of it was to late the machine was never any good after
if it is a big fire get every one safe and let it burn

I agree, if you think I am going near a machine loaded with diesel and hydraulic oil that is one fire and with 2 or 4 big tyres inflated with compressed air, not to mention hydraulic accumulators and the like, I think it would be safer to let it go up. Repairing a machine after even a minor fire could be a nightmare.

In mining or in confined spaces (i.e ships etc) it is a different matter as letting a fire go unabated could kill you even if you aren't anywhere near it.
