Has anyone done this? How much does it cost and does it get an insurance reduction?
Seems barmy they’re not fitted as standard.Has anyone done this? How much does it cost and does it get an insurance reduction?
Years ago we had what I think was called a flextinguishe, it was a normal fire extinguisher but had a loop of pipe off the end that was threaded around the engine bay on our combine with the idea that if a fire started the pipe would melt and release the extinguisher contents. Have never seen one since
mist on oil/diesel system? how does that work? agree its better due to less damageThe best setup for causing minimal damage afterwards are water mist systems, when you see the videos of them work they are fantastic. Wouldn't be too difficult or expensive to rig one up with a manual release.
Smothers the fire like you wouldn't believe, I've seen the videos of a ship engine catch fire when a diesel pipe went, the fire was out in no time.mist on oil/diesel system? how does that work? agree its better due to less damage
Having some experience of combine and machine fires some fitted with a fire system on i never had a combine or big baler saved with them.
The better idea is to have water spray system that you can manually use
In my experience low pressure spray worked the best as it did not spread the fire.
If you are unlucky to have a fire on a big machine by the time fire system had gone of it was to late the machine was never any good after
if it is a big fire get every one safe and let it burn
