Fitting correct combine duals

My combine has 800/65 r32 fitted, I bought a set of cheap 20.8r38 duals to match. I see the combine wheels stand 68" tall, the duals stand 70" tall. I don't want to stress the axle tumps/hubs. If I just let enough enough air out of the duals will there be any point in putting them on? I have a set if 18.4's tyres which would stand at 64" tall, I don't think they're a match. I want to reduce ground compaction in wet years

What to do?

Having snapped the halfshaft on a Claas with duals, (fun day out that was) go for the smaller duals, they will stress the axle less and be there if you do start t sink in a bit. Your wheels at 64" tall are only 2" less than the combine (one side) so you won't be sinking much to make an odds.
Its not the running in the fields thats the bother, its going on verges, kerbs, rough tracks thats does the damage.

We run wider wheels now rather than duals, as I don't want to be jacking a machine in soft ground to remove duals, main wheels, a complete final drive assembly and refit with a new one ever again!!:cry::cry:

Oddly, a majority of biggish combines in States and Canada run on dualled 20.8s or thereabouts. I was told its as much to do with stability with wide heavy headers as it is about floatation. Would be many more like this than on 800s or 900s. Road width is not an issue for them, as it is for us.

Also the duals will straddle maize rows so reducing tire wear. Cheaper to replace one compared to a 800 / 900 single. Personally I’d rather run with 20.8 duals than wide singles. Now have tracks
