I recently bought a used trailed mower for admittedly a sharp price from a dealer.

Today it broke down and on enquiring, the said dealer says it’s my problem not his

is this acceptable?

All depends on what broke, how long you’ve had it and how much you’ve used it.

Well I paid enough for it, can’t use it till it’s fixed and only got it last month
After only a couple of acres I would say their problem, but in reality it will all depend on if they ever want to deal with you again. Maybe if you feel they aren’t interested you need to go straight the the top. If still not interested in your issues name and shame. Repair it yourself and try and get as many demos of kit as possible from them without buying!

Good advice @Drillman
Go straight to the top. Ask to speak to the boss man

I already did and the head honcho said no, he’s a miserable bugger though! Lads who work for him are spot on mind, dunno how they put up with him really?

As been suggested above I mite see what else they have in stock and try get some demos

I know car dealers have to give warranty with used cars but I don't know if same applies to used machinery, I somehow doubt it perhaps you should have asked

id like to know the law on this? surely buying from a dealer as apposed to buying private or at auction, the buyer has certain rights in law a dealer in law has to honour?

This is something I will never understand ; Farmer buy's a used machine , then it breaks, which they all do, next thing is a thread on here , "What do I do ? "
We are all in business, so surely at the point of any purchase you find out what the warranty is or not and get it in writing , it's a simple first base of business , we either buy "as is" or with a warranty of so many months and it's written down ,
Simple as that then, no arguments when it breaks

As above.

Also too little info in the OP. What do you mean by a "sharp price" cheap I assume. How long ago did you buy it and what were you doing with it when it broke?

For all we know, you could have bought it six months ago, left it out in the rain since then and decided today to see how it copes with an area of scrub that's not been cut since Adam was a lad.

bought last month and just using it to trim grass verges at the moment so nothing too taxing

my opinion is the dealer took a very unreasonable stance when I told him it was broken
