Flail Toppers

Looking to purchase a flail topper - probably 2.8m with side slide or possibly 2m offset type...

Any recommendations for brand/model - there seems to be quite a big choice available from a variety of manufacturers?? Well supplied with local dealers for most manufacturers...

Orsi, vigolo, cabe.

Cabe is probably the hardest mower we've ever come across. 8mm body. They sell them as pulverisers. Amazing job they do on grass, brambles, and 4" cuttings!

What does your local dealer stock? Maschio Bisonte 250 here. They do a 280.

Great bit of kit, very well made, lovely finish even with long, thick, tough stuff, munches small trees as well and it's quiet!

Muthing every time don't know of anything that comes close for build quality or reliability. Quality of finish also very good.

For a budget machine. I looked at a new 'Jansen' flail topper the other day. Looked to be made from good heavy section steel. Apparently from Germany, it did have a Chinese transmission.

We've got a kneverland and it's grand does a good job and seems well built make sure to have a double skin on whatever you buy it stops them getting knocked about

I've a cabe and while it's a good topper, the backup I've received is truly awful, part of the side shift needs a new nylon bush and circlip, 3 bloody years my dealer has been trying to get them.

I will NEVER EVER get another cabe topper, if they can't supply the little bits what are they going to be like if a gearbox goes bang.?

Its a great shame as it really is a very, very good machine. But backup is everything I'm afraid.

Just get a heavy duty Maschio model like a Bisonte. They're built very tough, use proper B&P gearboxes and Walter shafts. Readily available from loads of dealers nationally, not too bad on price and parts are easy and quick to source.

Does Spearhead still make one? I once hired one that had done thousands of acres. Was still like new . Built like the proverbial out house!!!
And British built.

Chinese imports. Ok for a small holding but not for proper work. They just don't compare. Rotors are very often smaller, not so well balanced. They masquerade as beefier machines but not until you put one up against a pro machine they're found wanting.

We have a KRM Zennit 2700 machine, solid piece of kit, actually made by FALC. For something about the width you're after I'd be looking for something that weighed 900kg min, weight keeps it from dancing around.

agrimaster here been very good the paint is a bit thin but so far no issues had it new in 2005 so done some work

Kuhn BP280 have gearbox rated for 175hp and auto auto tensioning belts.

Very heavy duty, well made and leaves a good finish.

Anyone try the new Spaldings ones ?

Spaulding are a bit like toffee, we have welded one up several times for a local farmer and ended up making a new stronger headstock. Considering the machine is 2 years old it doesn't instil confidence.
