They have been for several years but some people can't be helped.

And what happens when you spray a population that is mostly resistant? Come on everyone, sing it with me!
You kill only the non resistant ones, same as every time you spray a pesticide. Neighbour had tests done last year varying between 20 and 90% resistance. So my one application is likely to perhaps control 50% on average which might be the difference between a crop and no crop. I will not repeat the application.

I'm not drilling till the 15th September. (unless I crack before then). I reckon this is as late I dare go before yield drops off for other reasons.

Been testing new drill (stubble cultivator with secondhand stocks turbo jet wizard on it) by drilling a few hectares of stubble turnips after we finally got the "drill in work" cut out switch working the right way round. Using this rig where there is chopped straw. Sticking with the Unidrill for drilling into sprayed off grass leys.

Small farm, few acres and going to do some other job anyway, so not too worried about it.

Shot holes here. FSS. I think I will do it’s one and only insecticide this week when I take out hybrid barley volunteers. I would prefer rain and chucking on some AN but feel the barley is going to suck up all the precious moisture.
A few here but it's rained, tbh the crop looked like it needed it and hopefully it will drown some of the little barstewards. No insecticide yet at the moment I am considering it acceptable losses but will do a night time nuke if I have to.

After 4 years of being insecticide free I’m going with Maverik, supposed to damage less beneficials I’m informed. Will check the label first, but the predators just aren’t doing the job, 3 write off’s in 4 years, and this year is looking dodgy [emoji17]

@Fromebridge - tau fluvalinate has a slightly different mode of action to other pyrethroids. Would this make any difference to a lambda cyhalothrin/cypermethrin KDR population? @Woodlander ?

Last year I used Mavrik a couple of times on a CSFB hot spot with not very exciting results. Gave up after two doses. Done at night.

This year I was thinking of switching to a hallmark Zeon but by the sound of things it's not much better.

Regardless of establishment method, they are always worse on cloddy areas, never really a problem on the sand, direct drilled, mintilled or ploughed.

They seem to like the clods to hide under, keep out to the sun or whatever.

Still holding off drilling for now but getting twitchy. Drilling some old stubble turnip seed on over winter stubbles as a beetle trap. We might need them for the sheep, but we might not, so they might get sprayed off.

Sprayed some last night. Had 10 in a trap yesterday morning, went out last night with a torch and saw 1-3 on most plants so went home and got sprayer. This morning 20 in the trap, will be interesting to see what’s about tonight and in the trap tomorrow morning.

Please post your findings! What product are you going to use & when will/did you spray it?

If soil movement is minimal and row width wider, presumably the rolls will suffer more from the 'castellation', so why do you think double rolling will be beneficial?. Just interested. Perhaps crushing!!
