Just interested what are the main difference between the fleck and the monty? What cow would give higher solids? Anyone got both and what is the best? Thanks.
Got both here, montys can be very mardy and definitely have an attitude, the fleckviehs are quieter but still not as quiet as any black and white but don’t seem as milky though, well not for the first couple of lactations anywayJust interested what are the main difference between the fleck and the monty? Plenty of 5th and 6th lactation Monty crosses here with good feet.Someone once said in passing that montys do not recover well from lameness and in my experience I'd say he was correct.
Agree with that our original crosses just calved in for the 8th time started with 17 and 11 of them are left, they were born out of the worst cows as it was an experiment really changed things round for our herdPlenty of 5th and 6th lactation Monty crosses here with good feet.
Was going to say welcome back but I've been beaten to it.Got both here, montys can be very mardy and definitely have an attitude, the fleckviehs are quieter but still not as quiet as any black and white but don’t seem as milky though, well not for the first couple of lactations anyway
We were sending far more Holsteins for meat than we ever do the Monty cross bred cows.Should this not be in the beef section??
