We’ve got some,I like them but you do get the odd nasty one,or very dopey one.probably one thing you notice aswel is they do tend to get big bags on them! But saying that I’m still serving few cows to fleckvieh, got some good haribo heifers (they look good) think the best fleck we’ve had give 13000ltrs last year (black one”Wendy”) (Linda the red one)

I have them and I love them. Looking at a 3 way cross currently but first year in so everything went to fleck last year and has again this year.
Bull calf value is tremendous when marketed well.

Why not just give a few straws a go. Could even use it in replace of beef perhaps and then if a tidy heifer comes out keep it on. Worse case scenario you have a cracking suckler heifer at 2 year old

What are your goals and the long term plan with them.

You will certainly loose some average yield over dairy breeds, gain some beef and a bit better health.

Well too ad some hybrid vigour to the herd and it appeals to me the bull calf and cull cow value plus I have milked Simmental X cows before as we had some and they milked well and kept condition , I'm just wondering would a montbeliarde X be more effective than a fleckvieh X in terms of better UDDER confirmation and with a bit more milk ? Plus good bull calf value and cull cow value , what's your opinions

Why is there a market for fleckvieh suckler heifers ?how do you think fleckvieh compare to montbeliarde ? In terms of milk and udder confirmation ?

I bought some monty bull calves a few years ago along with some simmis (breeds both very similar). I sold these as store cattle and made good prices (cant remember off the top of my head). Anyways, a customer of mine bought this group of cattle off me and finished them. Last year he showed me his chit from the market where he sold them fat.. put it this way the monties finished sooner and made him more money.
Love experimenting with breeds!

I have both Monty and Fleck crosses.
My opinion so far is the Montys have better udders and general conformation.
The Flecks are less twitchy in the parlour but milk yields i see little difference. I like both and will continue using both breeds.
I sold some 2 month old Fleck x bulls on Friday. They made £320

Hybrid vigor is pretty minimal in the overall scenario of adding in another breed. It’s even pretty minimal when you compare the variance in bulls within a breed.

There is a market for anything to the right person. If they’re not for you I’d buy them from you so you’d loose nothing in trying. Not tried any monties yet but had a few straws this year
