Flotation trailer tyres

Ceat flotations I bought off Terry Elsey Tyres carry a lot less mud out of the field than the 445/65/22.5 commercial tyres I was previously using if that helps. It certainly hasn’t got any drier since fitting them, but I have managed two frosty mornings so far.
Ok thanks thats what I was looking for
User views on them. Thanks

Currently I have bailey trailers fitted with 425/65/22.5 tyres, but the smaller 11ton one I use for muck is fairly rutting the fields this time of year. One field in particular has a steep ramp in, which the 155hp on wide tyres only just manages to drag it up. Normally I can manage the trailer with a 120 hp on well worn tyres. Would flotations make the trailer easier to pull off road ? Secondly if flotations were fitted, what would be a good match considering the original tyres were chosen for roadwork and keeping the trailer narrow for the roads I use.
A wide tyre on a tractor won't grip like something like a 20.8
Floatations on trailers are great until they sink, then a super single will pull easier.
When we had two 7620 Massey's, the one on 20.8r42's would out grip the other one on 620/70r42 every time

The issue I have is a steep, pure sand ramp up into the field, with no chance of a run up to help. I know where you’re coming from, but the reality in this situation is 18.4 x 38 shod 120hp will only lug about 8t load on the same trailer whereas 155hp on 650x42 will pull about 10t. This was with 445/65 tyres on the trailer. Swapping to 560/45 flotations allowed about a ton more to be taken with the 155hp. The most noticeable difference was the lack of rutting on the stubble and on the leading track. It was wet so I haven’t tried the 120 hp yet to see. The aim is to stay on top of the pudding skin or ideally keep off it until better conditions. Ideal weather windows seem to get less each winter here. :(

I wouldn’t have expected that.

Running these on our Marshall bale trailer. Currently at 30psi but tempted to drop them a bit more. They are definitely not as good as a grain trailer style flotation when it comes to a large footprint but were the only flotation tyre option when I specked the trailer.

We have two trailers on those tyres - ime 30psi is absolutely the minimum before you start scrubbing the shoulders off the tyres

Even with a full load on there is very little flex on them. We are ring fenced though so are not travelling at speed or on the road which would make me raise pressures.

There won't be much flex in the sidewalls, they're quite rigid, and responsible for the shoulders of the tyre wearing. Lower pressures allow the middle of the tread to flex toward the rim, protecting the centre strip from wear, while the outside takes the pain.
Load it up, let the pressure down, take it into a soft field and observe the wheelings carefully, and you'll see what I mean.

Are these the 550 crossply? Just looking up this and thinking of getting a Marshall with these tyres. Lots of people say how bad they are but I'm only doing upto 8 miles with 40k. Never had trouble with crossplys, but I tend to keep the pressure well up . Not sure if mini supers will be very helpful in a wet silage year.

Got an 11t Bailey on those tyres and travel very well on soft ground fully loaded with muck.
Trailer had super singles when I got it an difference is like night and day.

Depends what people want to do with a trailer. If you are carting for miles and days on end at 50k then expect to have issues with cross ply’s but for shorter trips at 40k they are perfectly fine.

Does anyone offer remoulds on sizes other than 385/65r22.5? We have a set of 445/65r22.5 for mill haulage on one trailer that need replaced, can't really find anything apart from standard 385 super single.
