Flu Jab

Paid the princely sum of £12 and had my flu jab at the local Boots the other day (with a nipper in nursery we are both forever getting bugs). Apparently it is a live vaccine and has 4 flu viruses in it, including swine flu.

Did not get any symptoms besides an aching arm for 48 hours. Lucky it was only my right arm, not 'that' arm. (y)

As a bonus had to get half naked for the pharmacist and she didn't even phone the police. Perhaps it caught her professional medical interest?

Oh, and don't have the vaccine if you are allergic to eggs- it contains albumin derived from eggs.

The jab isn`t a live vaccine and contains 3 types of Flu.. That`s why it takes 10/14 days for your bodies immune system to recognise the viruses and develop resistance to them. A/H1N1, A/H3N2 & Influenza B (B/Brisbane/60/2008 variant in 2017)

The childrens nasal spray is live & contains 4, they also get B/Phuket/3073/2013
There are 144 or so different varieties of flu...

You are correct about eggs & allergies!

Local pharmacy doesn't charge - had it done whilst waiting for prescription to be assembled.
Saves putting extra pressure on surgery next door as does getting blood test slip from surgery and getting sampled at local phlebotomy dept in hospital which always seems to be near empty early afternoon when I go as opposed to having to make a practise nurse appointment 14 days hence.

Why don't they put the phlebotomist in the surgery rather than having to go to a hospital?

They do - but by appointment in 13 days time, the day before my practise nurse appointment so results wouldn't be back in time.
Walked straight in and out of hospital phlebotomy dept without sitting down except in the "bleeding chair", and no car parking charge cos only took 4 minutes altogether.

Resource is in the wrong place if the hospital is quiet. May be other reasons but bizarre that the bloods and the practice nurse cannot be better co-ordinated

Child one is fine for egg allergies though (y) we’ve had most of Rhys’s jabs done in hospital just incase but this one was fine :D
