Flu jab?

I was told by a consultant that if you have symptoms after a flu jab then you would have been very susceptible to the type of flu in the jab so a good job you had it.

Don’t know if it’s true though.
I had Flue jab for 3 years and was quite ill every time after .around 10 days after , did not hsve it last year . Never had flue . Im going to have the jab again so will see if i am ill again
Its free in Wales ,

Wife is eligible so she has had it and within 24 hrs has had cold and flu symptoms. Went to her chest and had to go back to doctors for treatment of the chest infection. Now three weeks later and she is only just getting over the illness. Not very impressed. Last year was not a lot better as they admitted the flu jab given was for the wrong type of flue.

Yes, it is a bit of a lottery! They are presuming this year the one that will be prevalent this year is the so-called "Aussie" flu which is included in this years vaccination programme. (Apparently it's an absolute bugger!) I have been told that even if you are hit by a strain of flu not covered by a particular vaccine, the fact you had a flu vaccine helps your immune system to fight infection, so you might have been a lot worse off if you had not bothered to have a flu shot anyway. (?)
Having said that I had the vaccine last year (as always) and got knocked off my feet by the flu for a week. No regrets about having the jab though. This year I had The Pneumonia shot as well.

Ok flu jab 2020, i now fall into the new second category and just heard they MAY have enough jabs to cover us by Christmas. Have bought one privately for the last couple of years and no problem, so will the private guys have enough stock of the right stuff this year or should we wait till the NHS scratches around and decides it may have enough to go round and risk getting flu while waiting?

Rumours are going around that they may reduce the age for eligibility for a free flu jab this autumn to 50, however l don't intend to wait ( I am 64). Flu is awful, if l can avoid it l don't mind spending a tenner or so to get immunised.

Back to the thread,I have had the flu jab for a number of years ( as my age qualifies me ) and yes it is well worth the effort.Takes about 1 minute at my local doctors surgery.
They usually require people to stay around for ten minutes after the jab to ensure that there is no severe reaction, probably to the egg protein that it contains.

Does that mean that the flu jab will be refused by vegetarians I wonder?

If you have had previous jabs no need to stay 10 mins. Vegans may object due to the egg-based vaccines which will be for the 55-64 group and most over 65s. Other groups vaccines are cell-based.
An otherwise fit person under 55 should not be using up supplies until everyone else is jabbed which will be by December. Flu usually arrives after that so still time. *
