Fly spray.

It’s been warm down here and there are flies about already. Has anybody applied yet ?
Wass all set to go today but then I see rain in the forecast for a week or so’s time.
So am I money saving or money wasting by applying now ?
Just to say we went early( not as early as this) last yr and had a much quieter season.

Usually start around dry off, which is coming round surprisingly fast.

Would make sense soft southerners are a few weeks ahead of this.

Again, I've only ever heard about early application from folks selling the stuff and farmers quoting the folks selling the stuff?

Have tried them in the past with no noticeable benefit. Perhaps we were too late in getting them out.
Had this discussion on a flyey day with a locum vet last year whilst tb testing. Asked what we used for flies, I said garlic , don't work its nonsense. I said seen any flies on cattle? They huffed and carried on.

In my experience removing the first flies of the year makes a huge difference. It also makes sense. By removing a lot before they have time to breed you remove total numbers over the year

Used Swish 10/5 last year to reduce fly population , and very impressed . Did cattle last week . Worked out comparable in price overall to garlic licks , used previously . Will do again in late June , as it seemed to last longer than blurb says .....

All the advice is always to start early, kill them before they get a chance to breed

I've got the spray today, unsure weather to treat tomorrow with the forecast. But a catchy 3 weeks would allow them to multiply

advise I was given was swish no good if rain coming as you’d reduce it’s activity time. Oil based such as spot on or spotinor was all good.
Advise came from someone who supplied a range of them so not tied to one product.

we’re scanning all the cows next Friday so if it’s dry enough ours will be done then.
