I see the flies are started early this year. What's everybody's plan of attack for in calf heifers and dry cows?
Swish worked well here but last year I think it did nothing.

Last year was a particularly bad year for what it’s worth.
I changed from Swish to Dectospot (Spot on) last year and it also seemed to have little effect

Did anyone ever use flectron? Fly tags.? Bought springing heifers with them in. Must have done ok as there was no 3 titters or dirty quarters.

We've used the tags the last few years, supposed to last 5 months and they last about 4 and a half .

I once worked on a farm and we taped a fly tag to the bottom of the cows tail near the under.
It might sound daft but it works a treat

What about chickens following the herd round?

Might sound daft but flypor at £1/cow for a squirt would probably buy a few ex layers...

Yeah can't see any downsides to this, especially of your either
A: like eggs
B: are a fox

If our chickens escape from the garden and get to the calf pens when we are cleaning them out, they have a lovely time cleaning out larvae

Yes point B is the main issue.

We move the chicken hut into the calf shed for the summer , they do a fantastic job

I got a non conformance on my Arlagarden inspection for having chickens loose in the calf shed!
