Foliar N

Would it be possible to use only foliar in order to make the most of expensive nitrogen? As I understand it is way more efficient but is it possible supply all this way? Looking to apply 170 kg N/ha.
Thanks

It would be difficult to apply foliar N before you have sufficient foliage to take it up. You would need granular (or liquid of course) N to get the plants to that stage.

I think you might have scorch troubles unless you spray only in dull/dark conditions, and are not too ambitious regarding rates . What type of liquid n are we talking about?

Nope, IMO Still need a decent amount of soil applied N to build the biomass, if can apply 120-160 kg N then you use the foliar N to replace the final 30-40 kg N.

Good grief yes, been there etc.

Presumably N20 that misses foliage and hits the soil isn't wasted. With true foliar products you'd need a full canopy to intercept it which may not happen until April-ish.
agree entirely........I know a few who have historically made their own N20 for soil applied applications through dribble bars so can be applied to soil, however I wouldn't want to be applying to the leaf regularly through flat fan nozzles!

I like you believe the true foliar products (eg Safe-N) need a full canopy eg apply T2/T3, so IMO cannot replacement soil applied N completely, need the full crop foundation then these supplement the final N dose which with the exception of milling wheat is normally the more marginal application in terms of ROI.
