People are less resilient than they were, 40-50 years ago there was less to spend money on, computers, internet, phones, holidays, gadgets, ready meals, takeaways.

Now having had it easy for too long people can't fend for themselves.

You can't starve a peasant.

I envy them ! They lives well into 90s , just content with their lot and eat like kings ! The uncle used to go to the pub and drink half pint as all could afford but never complained happy with a half … ive never seen anyone drink half pints for years .

Apart from all those times in history when peasants have starved, you mean?

or Stalin with Ukraine in the 30's
unfortunately you will never stop that happening, l see the UN are saying 1,000's will die of starvation, due to Russia stopping grain exports from Ukraine, if putrid won't agree to those exports, which he won't, he doesn't give a toss about that, how can they be fed ? Could try asking people to eat less, stop wasting so much food, and what would the response be ?
Starvation is a horrible fact of life, when food is short, or being deliberately with held, people will die. I was once asked, what type of life, would we have, if all the genocide/starved, in the last 100 yrs, were here now, l couldn't really answer that, but l do know, it would be a huge drain on food supplies, even if we could actually produce the required amounts

That's not true in 2020 75%+ of women 24-45 were in full-time work in 1975 it was 57% go back in time it would be even less.
Although your evidence is correct, your point isn’t. Yes full time employed women as a percentage have gone up but that does not include the women who were doing piecemeal work at home as that is not classed as full-time work as far as I am aware. Looking at my own family tree, all women worked doing something or another as far back as my grandmothers and their sisters.
The industrial revolution removed a lot of piecemeal work and brought that into factories but it didn’t eliminate it.
Being in employment and working are not the same thing.

I think the Civil Service are a testament to that!

Go back to the previous post I made. The reduction in family size coupled with the introduction of labour saving devices such as washing machines enabled married women to get full time paid jobs. Women have always worked that’s undeniable but previously it would have been mainly at home or with seasonal or similar work that didn’t interfere with their main role of bringing up children and making sure dinner was on the table when their husband came home.

don't think there's much difference between any of them, politics today, is treated as a career, for most, the big decision is which party to choose, at the start of their career, swopping parties, isn't seen as a good idea.
It's also being seen as a stepping stone to possible mega-bucks afterwards. Blair has amassed, apparently, 25-30 odd million from "consultancy" work.
They all make a thick wedge from speeches at various conferences, Davos in January is a nice, deep, wide trough for them. And what about Cameron,
again, somebody filling up his bank balance using "the old boys network" supercharged from his connections as PM.

Much of the Blair family wealth came from insider property deals and the witch's legal practice after Tony brought in legislation at her urging.
