Retailers have cranked up their prices a lot in recent times - even though they probably bought what they were selling on older cheaper contracts - now people are waking up to the problem, retailers will make a big show of reducing or freezing prices for the next 3-6 months, to make it seem like they are helping and are the hero's once more.
Already been done over here.

Thus beef wont be going up much if at all, and will have massive presure down .

Exactly what I was saying to someone earlier. I struggle to see how the current price rises on some things are justified so soon. All the media reports on how food prices would have to rise played right into their hands.

There is no food production crisis. The World is awash with food.
There is a food chain crisis - specifically the consolidation of the supply chain into ever fewer hands - and the people who stand to get ever richer from that consolidation will use the fear of shortage to strengthen their hand.
You are all - farmers, your messiah Jezza - barking up the wrong tree banging on about food shortages. You are playing into your enemies hands.

Perhaps they're trying to delay any panic buying as they know they can't replace their stock so delaying/reducing demand until they can find/ import some more.
Possibly. Over here some things are short and supermarket shelves have bigger gaps, other things seem plentiful. There was a story on the news last night about the pork industry, one farmer was going to have to put his latest batch of pigs in the ground because demand had dried up and cheaper imports were filling orders.
Farming's the same the world over, always the first to get shafted.

There will certainly be food shortages if future crops aren't planted due to the cost/availability of fertiliser, those shortages aren't here yet though for most things.

There is a huge amount of slack in the system - land currently used for energy crops/ alcohol/ pick your drug of choice/ - to up food production should it be necessary. Any shortages will be engineered by those set to profit from them.

You can't just pull it out of your arse, tell the population of Tunisia, Sri Lanka, Lebanon how to sort themselves out, there are a lot of people in these countries going to die in the coming months from food shortages and the fights that go with them

And meanwhile they use their best land to produce little luxuries for us. It's not an actual shortage, it's an engineered shortage.

they are very clever operators, as are all the major retailers.
so, perhaps they think the current higher prices, will encourage farmers to produce more, and they can lower prices, as soon as that happens, and to be fair, that is what usually happens.

This time, they might be in for a big shock, whichever way you look at it, supply is less than demand, not only here, but globally, chuck in higher input costs, less fert, cost of transport etc, the food surplus just isn't going to happen, and personally, l hope reality kicks them, where it really hurts.

There won't be food shortages in the UK, higher prices, and a lot less choice, less imported luxury high end product, and consumers will have to deal with that, Waste needs to be tackled, that is outside our control.

What l can see, is a change of attitude towards food. But you can be certain, those smarmie bas#tard retailers, will shift the blame to us.
