Daily Express Today , Food prices going up 15percent , yes 15 percent of nothing is not a lot , they don’t know how cheap.... food has been. Farmers have not been paid according to inflation like most industries.Have heard of farmers selling potatoes for £50 - £100 per tonne after investing the money from probably 18 months ago, and having to pay soaring energy prices and soaring fuel prices , A LOT MORE THAN 15 percent.

have no time for any of it , everyone in the food chain has been making a good living except the primary producer , from tesco to costa coffee , Costa is always busy at the best part of £5 for a morning drink you could make at home for a few p , so there is still plenty of money about , our chip shop is always busy with huge ques at weekends with cod + chips @£10-12
there is a huge divide these days between the havs and have nots , the havs are a long way from starvation,

You just need to look at the bottled water aisle in any shop to see where people can make savings for a start. Pointless spending for the sake of it, never mind all the environmental damage.

I've mentioned this programme before, it was on last night - Eat well for less - at one point it showed the wife, large plastic bag in hand, emptying the fridge of food gone it's "best by date". Also, on the news this morning there was an item where they interviewed people as to how they were coping
with the increase in food prices, none mentioned binning the food delivery app!. We'll know that inflation is biting when Deliveroo and their kind
start reporting large decreases in their business.

Yea I saw that.
No one seems to have mentioned reducing their phone tariff either!

It did make me laugh that the Govt have just appointed the former Chief Executive of JustEat to be their new Cost of Living Tsar! 😂

I was appalled at my friends chippy putting cod and chips to £11.50! and not the same size portion as before either.. yet he will claim that he is grossing less than £1 per portion.

One of the more shocking facts he told me was that since ditching the delivery apps he is up £400 per week on the till as the amount of people that complain through these apps to get a free meal is shocking.

It's funny, we sell high value chicken direct. Niche market I know.
Daughter asked if chicken had gone up in the supermarkets. So we had a quick Google. Can still get a bog standard cheap chicken for under £3 in tesco. It costs me more than that to have them killed🙁

It's almost like the news outlets are trying to make it an issue...

Very much a sense of that. Seem to be fanning the flames of the victim culture that is prevalent today with people taking responsibility for themselves but expecting others to do it for them.

The comment about this "affecting their mental health" seemed another example of this to me. It's a buzzword the BBC news seem to love putting in to try and garner more sway and call for things to be done rather than taking responsibility. It's rather insulting to anyone who really is genuinely suffering with their mental health.

For anyone who hasn't taken responsibility while others have, playing the "it's affecting my mental health" card in the hope that they can continue their unsustainable behaviour is just more of the same lack of responsibility.

Interesting perspective. I buy bottled water because I prefer the taste of it to tap water and like to drink it with my dinner in an evening. Usually sparkling but do take still too, on occasions. It's a load cheaper, healthier and less environmentally damaging than beer, cider, wine and spirits too - better to cut that pointless spending out first, surely?

Ban the flower aisle?
Biscuit Aisle?
Pet food aisle?

Hope it’s not Dasina or Aquafina because they were forced to admit that their water was straight out of the tap with some added processing. I’m not sure your comparison is valid, beer, cider etc aren’t just water. If you’re happy drinking bottled water that’s for you to muse over, I was just using it as an example of pointless spending. We’re under a tsunami of pointless spending and resource use currently. It won’t change a lot even with everything that’s going on…

Tv news was stopping people and asking how it was affecting them, one chap was a builder and pretty much said life was great and he was earning plenty to afford increases. Another was a 20+ stone woman moaning about food and fuel prices, ffs she would be along time wasting away.🤣 GP have been completely unaware of how little farmers receive for produce and are more than happy to pay more. Milk stations etc are going great guns. Supermarkets need to cut their margin and stop being so bloody greedy
