Foot bathing in iodine

This may have been talked about before does anybody run sheep through iodine solution to tackle feet issues ? I’m having good results when sorting sheep with foot rot , trim back and spray with iodine rather than a Terramycin spray , they are recovering quick . Normally just bath them with formalin but not the nicest stuff to work with

As above i would have thought be to expensive to do unless it can be watered down , not a clue on the benefits of it tho never gave it a thought for feet before but may spray some on in future to see 👍

Yeah I would plan in watering it down but suppose it might not be as effective.I’ve started using it after watching the hoof gp on YouTube he sprays all cows with iodine over expensive sprays.

Not sure how well it would work.

Strong iodine will draw moisture helping to dry out navels, foot rot etc.
Mixing iodine with sugar increases the ability to draw moisture and is a very old yet still commonly used poultice.

Mixing it with water would lessen that drying ability and I don't think the antiseptic power of a dilute solution would be enough to be effective for routine footbathing.

We’ve put a splash of this in with the formalin in the past.

Difficult to measure results however it must make bacteria cough..

FAM 30 is an iodophor (iodine) based disinfectant that is bactericidal, fungicidal & virucidal, offering excellent protection from a wide range of disease causing organisms. FAM 30 can used in footdips outside livestock housing, terminal disinfection to combat TB (Tuberculosis) and to sanitise livestock water systems

^ You can use this for almost anything that needs cleaning/disinfecting. Used to use it for washing calf buckets and dairy equipment.
