footpaths

Our rights of way officer cant shut footpaths unless the government go ahead with a full closure. Its crazy, if there was the likes of foot and mouth they would be shut? Going round the sheep we are seeing 10-30 people mainly family groups all climbing on gates looking at lambs and generally hanging about where we need to be, you ask them to move and they walk up to the gator and way what did you say, bloody boiling my blood at the moment.
whats the likelihood of them shutting the footpaths? and who do I even ask if the RWO cant do anything?

Police have Powers to disperse and to Tell to go home. It's just been on BBC 6 O'Clock News. One force is using drones.

Walkers have to stick to the Law about footpath use, and not abuse it. They now have to observe social distancing and not to become a gathering.

The present rule is of one period of exercise per day. Nobody has been instructed to go for walks. Stay at home. No non essential journeys.
They should not be hassling you. You are a Key Worker even if they are vegans.

Well the police are busy hassling key workers trying to do their jobs.

I have been stopped 4 times today on just one trip to get meds from the vet.

Copper told me that people are getting very angry about what is going on and that one delivery driver told him he had ben stopped 12 times today..

This is not going to end well!

Surely this is the best opportunity farming's ever had to show the British public we're a great industry.

Whilst keeping your 2 metre distance you can kindly explain what you're doing to feed the nation. Thank them for their interest and politely say you need space to work in.

I’ve parked rotten bales in styes don’t see why we should permit it. Saw 9 groups of people trapping meters from me on the digger levelling ruts, got tired of loosing my rag rubbish to them. I’m well over a 3/4 mile from any abundance of houses

I'm sorry you had the cluster of random stops. It must have been frustrating. Delivery drivers could resemble workers that aren't key workers off to work on projects on lock down, I suppose. Imagine how people hassled under the old "sus" laws felt!

I hate the whole idea of this. The trouble is that there is a portion of the population - across the board, pretty much - who are not acting according to law. They probably weren't acting to clear guidance and advice before laws had to be brought in. It's horrible.

The sooner the - can't think of a correct term, well, I suppose offenders? strays? is on the rightish track - offenders, then, realise this is all real and applies to them the better.

I'm sorry but now is not the time to explain anything other than stay at home. We have signs up saying if they could kindly walk else where while we are lambing to protect farm staff. Just get more and more every day.
Every open space car park is now shut so they are putting more pressure elsewhere.
I would not go into there workplace right of way or not....

A farmer in the Peak District was beaten up recently for asking a walker to go home.

Its more like they have been told they have to, not they can go out for 1 form of exercise a day.

Problem is that the government advice states ( may have changed now of course ) that anyone who cannot work from home can go to work, it isn't just key workers that are allowed to go to work.

It should be better now you have to do your walk from home and not drive and park to walk. But... it's not stopping them all. People are dying for f sake. Just see that excel building in london that will hold 4000 beds under 1 roof and this iddiots are out like its 1 big holiday.

We have a footpath going right through the yard, normally up until Easter time only locals would walk through, perhaps half a dozen on a nice day, haven’t had any locals since Monday night. Last two days just families with kids driving to the end of the lane and going for a walk straight through our yard! My wife challenged one family today saying that we had to carry on working regardless of the threat they posed passing so close, to which the bloke replied “well if you hadn’t come out of that building there wouldn’t be a problem “ what can you do with such selfish tossers! They seem to think it’s a bloody holiday.

I’d be blocking that path straight away you shouldn’t have to deal with situations like that at the moment

Surprised you have that many coppers free to be stopping people!! Round here on Monday eve, a local Police team of 25 intended coppers, had just 9 officers on duty...

Wonder how long before we need a French style permit...?

Just saw the 'Chief Exec' of the Lake District National Parks Authority make the point that paths going through farmyards are not places the public should be using at the moment. If he's on message in this, there must be a chance that some joined-up thinking will kick in and the paths will be closed by law. ?

I'll e-mail my MP about this - Simon Hart, Welsh Secretary - and suggest others e-mail their MPs too. (y)

I can't understand why people are not allowed out into the countryside for a walk. Going for a walk in a crowded town would be far more dangerous. Round here they are coning off laybys.

The towns are not crowded, some villages have organised activities for children to do on their daily walk, looking for things in peoples windows.
They have been told only essential journeys, how is a trip out with the kids essential, it just one more car for the police to check. It will end up everyone has to stop for a pee, and you can just about guarantee none will have taken pack up. Then what happens if they break down?
We have seen more walkers, fortuately they do not cross our land, normally they never make this far and we are about half a mile from the village
