For fluke sake Help!!

right he we go I’ve mentioned this on here before but can pretty much confirm it now..I’ve got really fluky ground and suffered with fluke for a number of years it’s cost a lot of lives throughout its time. I’m after a little reliable help from any experts or one who knows how to help tackle my issue, which seams to be near total resistance to triclabendazol. I had a spate last year which suggested resistance but no confirmed test asuch. So these are my findings...
treated stock with triclabendazole in November 2016
lost stock late december 2016
Post-mortem confirmed adult fluke!
treated with closantal and again early March.2017
no more stock lost copa antigen test in March showed 0....
A Pre treatment Copa antigen test carried out late August across three groups ranged from 35-58 for those who don’t know 8 is deamed positive!
I treated with triclacert on 12/09/17 after receiving results.
I Expected to kill all stages of flukes and see an see a reduced number in post treatment test results.Taking into account re infection.
In the mean while ewes have struggled to gain if not lost conditionand a perfectly fit ram has refused to eat and pretty much melted to the point he won’t be used now this year.
Post treatment test carried out 12/09/17
Results show same three groups ranging from 77-113!!!!
I have now treated with closantal in the hope that the burden will ease and show a negative result post treatment

So I have now come to the conclusion based on this that triclabendazole reisiasance is clear So need as much help as possible to ensure the correct flukicides are used at the right times to ensure effective use without building up further resistance to other products it’s also clear that I can forget using triclabendazole for good! Which is a shame as it’s the only flukicide to target all stages of fluke.

So looks like I only have limited options for treatment which I think consist of albendazole nitroxonil oxyclozanide and closantal but when and which one do I need to use next and when I’d like a treatment plan for the following 6 months.

Thanks for reading and any help advice appreciated !

I haven’t used triclabendazole for a couple of years now,not because I had a resistance problem but to avoid getting resistance to it.use flukiver and trodax now.theres also closamectin and bimectin plus left but they are wormers as well

Now a little simpler how often can I use them one after another without causing a problem ie flukivour today trodax 1st December what would Be next at scanning early jan then again before lambing but looks like I could treat all year round with such a burden

Not used Triclabendazole for 12 yrs after they constantly used combinex all year every year . All adult sheep had Oxyclozanide in may as I also had rumen fluke eggs , all adult sheep had Nitroxonil in august and will be done again early nov before the rams go out , then with closantel in jan and march and finish with albendazole for adults only in may . The time between doses can vary either shorter or longer depending on the year all in consultation with my vet , constant FEC and some bloods plus any deaths automatically get cut open to check liver you get to know which fields are the worst and try to avoid them . All lamb were done with closantel In aug and will be done again any time now and all winter . Seems to be under control for the moment very rare to see bottle jaw and only the odd death with a damaged liver , long term don't know

That’s Sean’s a pretty good approach think where I have gone wrong is there was no treatment from March this year until September which was triclabendazol which never worked hoping flukivor has worked now but need to treat through the year

@trewern what you need is to sit down with a good up to date 'sheep' vet . If your current vet is not up to it go find one that is. Sounds as though the time for anonymous ley advice has passed.

I'd agree with this I've went through similar and now use trodax and closantel plus a summer drench of Oxyclozanide.
A good plan with a vet that is interested in sheep is the best start
