sorry i not deliberately trying to be pedantic but why the obsession with price per tonne of grass harvested , no one i know pays their contractor per tonne picked up , the only way to pay is per acre . so surely that is what all figures should be based on

I always paid by acre but cart lads and buckrake were /hr,never heard of anyone being paid/t.

exactly
if we all went around with the contractor and said that field is 30 an acre and this one is 28 because it is lighter we would never get anywhere
if you are brave you could pay per hour for forager but could come unstuck

I would have no problem paying by the hr,I would have one of the kids riding on making sure they were giving it 110% :)

We are going on to charge for all silage work you the ton, We are trialing a weight system at the moment & that is the way forward, all ready charge for a lot of square baling by the ton same as doing slurry by the cube price per ton for chopper & trailer less that £2 per ton

the only true way of weighing it would be per trailer with weigh bridge or weigh bars , too much room for errors or profiteering or vice versa me thinks

When I worked in the states every load was weighed sample tested for moister and a load of stuff I didn't understand, I just chopped it ;) But we had a rather large fuel bowser, the size of the wagon that delivers you bulk fuel

Do you think farmers will ted everything to dry it? And you'll be chopping hay which is a nightmare.

Think contractors who won fw contractor awards back a couple years from west Wales charged by the ton

I don't know how to quote but in regards to fitting forage waggon silage in our pit, I did say it probably can be done. I also said we had to work with what we had available to us. Not being cheeky, a 939 may do a good job of the pit, or a loading shovel but I don't have any of them! I reckon I could build another pit cheaper than the price of a 939! Please don't take any offence to this post as I admit forage waggon silage can be consolidated properly. We just don't have anything here that weights close to 14.5tons. Also, don't get me wrong...there are days we wish we had a waggon...nice and simple. It seems more appealing at the moment as I have snapped my Achilles tendon and cant do feck all! If I appear a grumpy git then now you know...wife only has another 6 weeks to put up with me

I don't clamp with anything as big as a 939 but a 8t loadall on 17.5 tyres is as good as anything at rolling.
