The teeth on the flywheel must have worn on it, it makes a terrible noise now when trying to start it! The starter is only a year or two old.
While looking online for flywheels I came across this, would it be possible to fix the flywheel using this?

Yes drill a hole through old ring to weaken it then split it with a chisel. New one will need heating just enough to swell it and drop it on. Make sure you fit the chamfered side of the teeth facing the starter ie opposite side to the working face of the flywheel as once it cooled and shrunk that's it

Uncle used to say how a fitter changed the starter ring on a dexta where he worked by placing the flywheel on top of the engine in a Morris van with a coat put over it then let the engine run and get warm
Said the ring would just tap off then fitted the new one in the same way

For start part cut off gear with disc cutter then chisel, you will need oxy torch to heat up new gear ideally on fire bricks and you must keep torch moving around i use a stick of solder when touching that on gear it melt's it's ready get it on quick use old gear ands hammer if needed then leave old gear on top of new one with a weight across it until cool, don't try any shortcut's and if unsure get a local blacksmith to do it.
