Ford 4000 major problem

Our Ford 4000 has mixed the contents of the radiator with the engine oil, after draining the sump you can now pour water into the radiator and it's runs straight out the sump at a decent flow. We think one of the cylinders may have failed, do any members have experience of this situation?

Porous block ? reline cylinder, new block, or 2 bottles of head gasket sealant....

Pull the head off first. I'm no Ford expert but I think there's a core plug goes in the head that will let coolant in the way your experiencing. Might well be Ford's Swiss cheese block to but I'd check the head first.

Porus block, we've had ours bored and liners fitted. I can find out where if you need any details, it's a proper job [emoji106]

Swap you the TM engine for the 7810 [emoji16]

I would suggest removing sump first then you might get an idea where coolant is coming from by looking underneath but be careful you don't get face full of dirty water

Unfortunately block ..............

But just take the rocker cover off, I think they're might be core plugs between oil and coolant just beside the valve springs.
No harm to be a bit optimistic .............

aren't you jumping the gun Mursal?? I have just remembered a local dexta that had same problem which was caused by the front cover corroding through behind the water pump, it could be a number of reasons. the tractor is well over 40 years old so it is a long time for porous block to appear to cause problem but then it might be, could it be head gasket? if the engine is buggered be careful going down the reconditioned route as I know of 2 who done this and there were problems with both engines

how much drains out? if it is core plug at top then not too much will drain out.... unless it syphons out

It all drains out, like a tap just turned on and no more, to me this probably means a hole lower down in the engine but where I've no idea.

I'd take the Sump off first, should be able to see pretty quickly what's leaking.

Yes is sounds a fair size ......
If you turn the engine by hand can you control the flow of water?
Moving the piston in the block sometimes closes the hole so you know where the fault is.

Best disconnect the battery first ...........

I have just remembered something about Ford engines but I cant remember full details!!, air bubbles are trapped and they hammer around in a small area when engine is running wearing away at the block …..
