I agree. I never saw the point of the 4100. You want small there was the 3600 and medium was the 4600. I’ve done many hours on both and I reckon the 4600 was as small as you want to go and as a tractor it was superb at a lot of things. Great torque. Baled for years with its predecessor 4000 which I really liked.
The bubble cab looked ridiculous on a 3600 too. It was pretty oversized on a 4600. I too am amazed Ford thought they needed a 4100. Only ever seen them with the old style super deluxe cabs off the preceding 1000 series or some sort of other make of cab (duncan?). I think our 4600 would have been improved for the fitment of 13.6r 36s instead of the 12.4s. Game tractor but didn't sound nice. IH 885XL that replaced in a different league.

Someone somewhere must've of needed it or else they wouldn't have made it. Same as MF250, or the Ford 7910 etc. The 4100 was popular in our area with the lambourn cab, and so was the MF250. Ideal for square baling, on the cattle trailer and everything in between. One farm carted silage with a 4100 and 7 ton twin axle silage trailer. Today the same farm uses 8 ton trailers on 110 hp tractors

Was it a Lambourn cab? My uncle had one.... Big transmission tunnel and large steering wheel made getting in and out hard!
Small fat tyres on the back meant it would pull a trailer with 6 round bales uphill better than a 4000 or 4600 on cross plies, very stable on banks too

Picked up a 7a1 4100 last night. Appears to be mechanically sound and goes well enough, however some tin work needs attention and the front axle needs new bushings and bearings. I think for now I will will emote cab and put round mudguards off to give me a chance to collect the missing bits
Where is good for parts? Has anyone good things to say about mayhill tractors? They have the front grille for £20, which seems very cheap? Even cheaper than agriline. This is to be a working tractor so stuff doesn't need to be 100% but don't want total rubbish either

Our neighbour had one new in 1976 with a deluxe cab and used it to cart beet to the factory with 8 and 10 tonne trailers on the drawbar as a pickup hitch was too expensive. He replaced it in 1983 with a 4110 but by then pickup hitches were standard I think
