Got an old ford 4600 that needs clutch done again. The gearbox has 10 splines and a 11 inch friction plate. Looking online I see there are 12" and 13" even a paddle 13" plate available along with corresponding covers.

Would anybody know if these are compatible with existing flywheel or do clutch covers pcd differ. thanks.

Different covers but you can get the fly wheel re drilled to suit

It's every couple of years, last time it just got friction plate so was going to change the lot this time. Flywheel could be doing with a skim but it's not bad, had my Nash one skimmed just the other year and it was bad. Yes keep free play but it doesn't do that much work nowadays worst it gets is small grain trailer and perhaps a Hays leveller for a few days a year.

A few things one, are you buying pattern clutches, two, pulling even a small loaded trailer ok if in low gear but is top gear being used and having to slip clutch to stop stalling engine when pulling away, three, putting a larger diameter clutch in will not guarantee it will last longer had this many,many years ago it was upgraded to larger clutch but just had a bigger area to slip, waste of money, as for paddle type that was a dana type copper segment, yes it is a harder wearing type meant for heavy duty, but for lasting longer i doubt it if it's used for same job's as original, as suggested get flywheel skimmed providing it's not been done before and use oem......

Friction plate probably came from dealership, 10 mins away, last time as it's was done in middle of harvest quickly. It's manual box (8*2) so work through gears as normal but two places so it is top on road and used to cart to somebody else's drier a bit away then again to mill, so fair bit. Rest of days on light duties hay turner, bruiser etc.

It slipped mostly on pressure cover side so will be getting full kit, just if I send away for skimming I could get them to take care of cover bolt pcd if needs be too. Pedal was snappy so cover well over due.

Could you get DP on a 46? Never seen one. High reverse is nice and fast.
@Thomas5060 is doing up a 4600.
No, couldn't get DP on any 3 cyl ford's until you got to the 30 series.
It's a 4100 we are slowly doing up.

The adjustment is just for peddle biting point, the clamping force is fixed by springs in pressure plate.

Well aware of that, but if you move the whole clutch forward you have to do the same with the pedal adjustment, so you have lost half the adjustment before you even start. had a 7810 put a new clutch in, i didnt skim the flywheel but i think the flywheel had been skimmed a couple of times before by others?

Jesus how much are people skimming off flywheels. It’s usually done in thous!!! 1mm would be a lot!! Flat flywheels are easy, pot flywheels you need to maintain correct pot depth
