Ford 4600 max revs?

Hello, i own a 4600 that may get a refurbished engine. What RPM is possible without affecting lifetime and overall the tractor?

About 2300 ish, maybe 2500 from a Ford as it’s a box engine (short stroke, same size as bore. Any more and you’re into valve dropping territory I would guess

Factory is 2325-2375 rpm no load. I wouldn't want to spin it much harder.

If your going to the expense of a re build stick to 2300, that'll give you a bit of room for it to goto 2400 ish on a slight down hill. I've seen over reved engines when they've gone quiet and it's a messy and costly sight. The drivers have never let on how how fast the engines were turning at termination point though.

I believe marinised versions commonly ran much faster. Not sure what difference there were in the 2
used to have neighbour with a MF tractor I borrowed one day. When I stepped on the throttle it shot up to near 4,000rpm. Spoke to him later and he said yes they had opened pump Wide to get faster road speed. He said they did it to all their tractors

Weren't the Fords on 8060 combines run at 2500 continuously?

Different engine industrial, 4600 is a 3cyl ag engine.

They're noisy enough ticking over, I wouldn't push one over 1200rpm

to get 540 on the pto you have to have 1900-2000 dont you think that it should handle mote than that without a load?
