Ford 4610 or MF590

MF for me too. Spent many hours on a 590, good tractor.
Easy to get in and out of, just don't drive off with the door open !!
Good views if going on the hedge trimmer. Worst thing with the 590 is no engine braking in low, if it has multi-power fitted.
Fords can, and do, lose the back window, but the 4600 here has a one piece rear window.
Pretty sure you'll not go too far wrong with either tractor though. Parts good, and easy enough to look after both, and plenty of independent mechanics that will know them inside out, including on here.

For me though, with tractors of that era, I'd buy the one in the best condition.

But......you've pulled the pin now......just waiting for the Ford / MF debate grenade to go off.

2wd, 4wd ? Which cab on the 4610, Q, Lp, Ap o'r even Duncan super cab ? Rust a big issue on middle two cabs. The 575 we had here was light on the back end and painfully slow on the road, and the steering, once worn was dangerous on the road with the steering wheel going from 10 past to 10 to before anything happened at the front wheels ! Rust also an issue on the double skinned areas on the 575 cab. Parts availability for both tractors are good, either genuine or spurious. Parts for the ford possibly cheaper.
Personally for me it would be the 4610.

Edit bugger just re read a mf 590 not a 575 . Different tractors altogether, but what I said, still stands (y)

Ford 4610 4wd is dreadful, used one last winter for a few months - gear sticks sitting just below the steering wheel are woeful, gutless, noisy (but low COG) - would take an older 5000 or 5600 any day. Can't comment on the Massey :)

A few different gearboxes on the 4610, I assume by your comment it was a coloum shift 4610 ? Orible things, with me being a slightly larger than avarage person they are rather tight for space, much prefer a standard gears between your legs ! Must have had something wrong for it to be gutless, I have a 4600 here (same engine) and it punches well above its weight for a 62 hp tractor. One of my would like to buy tractors would be a series 3 ford 4610 4wd with crash box and a Duncan super cab. Be easier to find rocking horse shxt though :(

Years ago we had both at the same time, we still have the 4610 on the farm, only on hay making and yard duties these days, but it's a tractor I have always avoided driving, very noisy and no room in cab, it's got the column shift but actually I don't mind that part, it's the fergie for me between the two.
