Ford 5000 trailer brake

Has anyone fitted a trailer brake to a Ford 5000? Can the 10-series attachment be fitted to the pre-force axle? I've heard that it was an original option on the 5000 but must have been rare.

No, I don't think you can easily put 10 series trailer brakes on, you need a constant live feed of hyd oil, you would have to drill and tap in to the casting, or take a flow from the ASC valve.

This was the '000 series offering for trailer brakes, it was lever operated and fitted in between the top cover and the spool slice.... there's a chance you may find something around at breakers (MJ Robinson or similar)

I think from a point of law the brakes have to be synchronised with the foot brakes

That's very interesting, never saw that before. It would be nice to add a linkage to that lever to link it to the foot pedal somehow. Seems quite cumbersome to have to operate foot and handle simultaneously.

Got one like that on my Ford force 5000 you don’t need the tractor brakes much if trailer brakes working properly .

well, I guess you could get a 10 series kit off a breakers and "make" it fit....not sure on the legalities of it all......

This is from the 10 series training manual

Wondering if you could help- lost all hydraulic power on a 5610- no oil flowing through the trailer bake block, should this be constantly flowing? Is there a valve stuck?

Years ago I fitted some Spalding kits that converted the trailer's cable operated mechanical hand brakes into hydraulic operation. If you going to use a lever in conjuction with the foot pedals, you might as well use a spool lever.

Should be possible to sort a foot break operated trailer break system to a 5000 , as my ford 8200 had it on , ( similar system to 10 series) , fitted as a sandwich between spool valve and back end casting.
( With 8200 hydraulic system very similar to 5000 )

Anyone remember the petit kit. Another pedal bolted on to one brake pedal and a cable from that went to a valve fitted to a spool valve with a return pipe and constant flow. As the pedal was pressed the valve sent oil to the trailer brakes.

I assume a q-cab yes brake valve has priority if no oil pressure undo pipe from main hyd pump that feeds brake vale don't force it off start engine and oil should be forced out if not something wrong with pump or more likely splines worn on shaft and drive in centre of flywheel that drives pump and pto if that wont drive as well then it's very likely.

hold for a genuine 1000 series brake kit, they are maybe difficult to get hold of but not rare. You'd pay £250 - £400 I should imagine. Neils / Robinsons / Bowlands Tomkinsons would all be good places to start or if on facebook join some of the Ford / 1000 series sites and post a wanted add.,
