Just wanted to know of any of your experiences of a Ford 5000 with a CAV rotary pump instead of a Simms inline pump. What was one with a CAV pump like at starting from cold?
Many thanks.

Experience of both but with same tractor our 5000 came new with CAV rotary and was a bloody awful starter to the point it got a heater kit fitted under warranty. But with hindsight the engine got glazed up ticking over during its first backend walking the cows in to milk. it was rubbish wouldn’t pull a Clocker of its nest Totally wasted really. Father said it’ll be ok next summer on the forager that’ll clean it out .it sort of did but always bad to start and used oil . after 3000 hours it was knackered. Got a set of liners and piston rings and flogged The living daylights out of it from then on no warm up as father had taught me just gently straight to work. different tractor altogether would start in an instant we actually took the heater kit off it it was an exceptional engine then.but went porous after a few years so put the bottom end of a 6600 engine in it with a inline pump and sold the 6600 ,it has never really looked back since good starter, especially with the excess fuel button in . they used to say they were livelier with a rotary pump I can’t see any difference.Just wanted to know of any of your experiences of a Ford 5000 with a CAV rotary pump instead of a Simms inline pump. The inline pump was far better at cold starts since it had an excess fuel button, which would put the rack to a much greater full fuelling position than a CAV was able to deliver.Just wanted to know of any of your experiences of a Ford 5000 with a CAV rotary pump instead of a Simms inline pump.
