Ford 6610 dual power switch / solenoid

Hi,
I'm trying to re wire the dual power up on a tractor with a new switch,
Can I just run a 12v supply to a rocker switch then to the solenoid or am I missing something? As there is only one wire going to the DP solenoid, but pop the switch off the dash and there is about 4 wires connected to it?

Thanks for any help

ford transit gearknob with overdrive switch,,,wire dual power to it...replace existing gearknob, job done

its how they should have been from new....and being able to drop dual power while changing gear on the fly does save a lot of crunching with that fantastically designed gearbox

There was a craze back in the day for bodging the switch onto the gear lever. Only 2 wires required on the switch IIRC.

Dropping the dual power down while trying to negotiate 2nd -3rd with a loaded trailer on does make an appreciable difference to the quality of the gear change, certainly did with the 76 i had to drive

Was a bit of a contorted process with the dual power switch on the dash and column change gear levers though, flat out in 2nd high, dip clutch, flick dual power down, hope you find 3rd before you run out of momentum

Good old days....we had a turbo'd 56 ap cab on the loader when u got really good it was easier not to clutch!!....blip throttle...Out of gear, flick the switch back in gear and away u went!!

..prey that you had 1600 rpm on the dial when you made it to 3rd keeping the turbo lit, else it was back to 2nd in a cloud of black smoke

Yep!!! Once that turbo dropped off song the whole thing started to plummet faster than a prime minister after a brexit vote...it was slighty more forgiving than the TW though....miss a change with that and it was roll to a stop, and start again

HI all. The dual power on the Ford 6610 is not working. It was working ok until one day on the road it dropped down by itself. At the same time the windscreen wipers stopped working. It had previously given trouble, in so far as it seemed to change itself without pressing the floor switch. Question for maybe MURSAL or JOHN 1594, or anyone else who may be in a position to help. Would a new switch help. This may be in the form of, as someone already mentioned, a Ford Transit gearnob with an overdrive switch or any other type switch. Help in the wiring of this new switch would be appreciated. Thanks

Start at the fusebox under the dashboard and see if anything is blown, or if you have power to it. Fuse #03 15 amp rating & #09 also 15amp.

I don't think that the fuses are the problem. I think that it is probably a faulty switch on the floor. What is the best way to by pass this floor switch and wire up a new one.

Unbolt the switch out of the floor, pull it up, splice new wires in and poke it back down the hole and thread up the gear lever and wire it to whatever switch you desire.
If you are doing away with the old floor switch then you can 'fashion' a plug for the hole from a piece of old grain elevator flap.

Is the piece on the floor ONLY a switch. If so, can it be taken out completely, wires joined up and connected to a new switch, and as you say, fashion a plug for the floor. In other words, do away completely with the floor foot switch.

Yes. I assume you have a SQ cab, as Q and AP cab would already have a flick switch on the dashboard ?
