Ford 7600 overhaul

Our 1981 7600 which we've had from new needs a clutch putting in and wondering whether to have the engine overhauled whilst it's in bits. It's done 9761hrs on it's original engine and not had any major issues - Dad always insisted on new 50/50 A/F every 2 yrs and we're sure this has prevented the porous issue. What's the likely cost of reboring, fitting liners and new pistons, and head possibly skimming and new valves ? Also it could do with the cab lining on the inside by the doors. I'll try and post some pictures if I can. Thanks

I have one in the shed too, just sat there. It's had a recon engine years ago and it all good and working etc. What sort of money are these fetching now? Mine's 2 wheel drive with the Q cab.

Not sure why but I really fancy one of these. I think its because I cut my teeth on a 4600 and neighbours had 6600s. Can't think what I would use it for either + I don't think they were actually much good, but I think they look smart.
The 6600 is still there. Make him an offer[emoji23]

hi Gruffalo you are in same situation as me the only difference is that your tractor is 7600 and mine is1960 dexta with clutch failure and worn out engine , but I will overhaul engine myself as I used to work at tractor dealer back in 1970's I am in middle of overhauling engine in TEF 20 diesel for retired farmer and I go through everything in fine detail to make sure job is done properly

9761hrs - it's barely run in:D
Seriously though, does the engine need doing? Is it breathing heavily? If it's not I would leave it alone - we've had 6700's, 7700's and 7710's do well over 10,000hrs on the original engines - as you say, 50/50 A/F and on the dot oil changes were the key with those engines.
While you're doing the clutch, if it's done a lot of PTO work, I'd put a new ipto hub in the flywheel (you can always put the ipto shaft in later - saves splitting it again to do it in the future).

They all breath heavily, even when new

Yup mine has since new, esp when given a bit of work, ours has been a very reliable machine despite trying to kill it on a 3.5m power harrow that it seemed to live on for it's early years. The spool valves were the only disappointment, leaking but then thats a Ford/New Holland thing, my T6090's valves leak slightly too. Progress for you
