Ford 7610 stuck in 4wd

If removing the shaft works, that could be next step, along with change all the seals in that housing, and whilst the axle is empty as its a ford I may as well do all the other seals

It may well be, I will remove the shaft at the weekend and give it another try. I did wonder if some dirt is stopping the solenoid closing completely, so when at high revs the higher pressure allows enough oil through to re engage the 4wd.
If I understand correctly that wouldnt be the case. it is hyrdaulic pressure that holds it in 2wd, it is spring loaded to be in 4wd all the time. it's a clutch and the hydraulics are keeping the pedal pressed down so to speak.

I got back on all fours last night so did a test suggested by a user on F4F, three wheels on the ground can you turn the raised front wheel?

in 4wd I can't, in 2wd I can, but it took me putting my weight on the lugs of the tyre and pushing down to do it.

Given it's a limited slip diff in the front and a clutch for the 4wd it didnt seem too bad, but I'd love to know if anyone else could try the same test and say how they got on.

I have my one stripped out My 4x4 was not staying on but coming on when it got Hot or banging when Breaking and we were looking at it and we think it’s where the oil supple comes in to the centre of the main shaft (the square cover) it is not tight fitting in the shaft which we think it should be because oil can escape back in around the shaft which wood make sense because it is a pressure problem. Can anyone shed some light on this because shaft is 1200€ and second hand who no’s what u be buying especially if that’s not the problem? The oil supple cover only 60€ so going to start with that.

This is what you should have, remove solenoid then remove valve and check o-rings you might well find they are hard or blown.. if ok check low pressure oil supply when hot if not to spec it may be pump problem...

Tried a different tactic at the weekend, driving down the road, turned the 4wd switch on, I get another high pitch noise when it's engaged, which stops the second I turn it off, so I don't think the 4wd is my issue. Also found when being pushed down hill the whine completely stops so it's only when it's actually pulling or under any load.

A lad called John Metcalf on one of the Ford groups on Facebook had a similar problem with his old 8210 whining on the road.
Traced it down to the 4wd clutch pack not fully releasing, ended up machining some parts in the drop box and solved the problem.

Ya the o rings are gone hard have to say set ordered hopefully that will solve my problem. Was thinking of changing the springs while I In there wood do no harm spring could be gone soft because it is after rounding the corners of the gear pieces that lock together when 4x4 in engaged from all the jumping in and out. Will just Angle grind a new straight edge be fine.

Low Carbon Agriculture, a new event showcasing opportunities in low carbon energy, technological advances and Environmental Land Management (ELM), is set to launch at the NAEC, Stoneleigh, next March. Charlotte Cunningham reports. Formerly Energy and Rural Business Show, the event has rebranded, relocated and reasserted its focus to ensure that practical solutions to tackling climate change through the generation of renewable energy, the implementation of low carbon initiatives and best practice in both environmental and carbon management, take centre stage, according to the organisers. Held in association with the National Farmers Union (NFU), Low Carbon...
