Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows where the solenoid for the fourwheel drive is located? I had a look and cant see anything obvious on outside of the gearbox.

Any info on where I should be looking would be great.

Thanks

Thanks very much for the reply, the cover plate (no 34 ) in the diagram was putting me off. I was looking for a plastic solenoid with a wire coming out from it. I will take off the cover plate tomorrow and have a look don't think its getting power to it . 4x4 always engaged. I have attached a photo, I presume this is the cover plate ... .. .

Yep.
I'd check the switch and fuse first, I don't think we've ever fitted a new solenoid.

Thanks for the replies, took a look at this yesterday, got the cover off and got the multi meter out and its not getting power to the solenoid.

I undid the metal cover to see what color the wire was which was leading to the solenoid and it appears to be solid brown. The tractor was recently split and I was hoping that the it would be a simple case of the connectors not being pushed in correctly but I cant seem to see a solid brown wire on one of these connectors.

Does anyone know where this wire enters into the cab/dash? I have checked the switch and appears to be getting power and is working correctly (sending power when 4x4 is off).

Any further info would be greatly appreciated. (sorry cant seem to upload pictures today )

Have a look at the earth points, the wires might be brown?
Germans use it as an Earth colour.

Best to earth the voltmeter independently off its own point (negative on the battery, maybe) and see have you power on any of the two wires going to the solenoid?

The problem you're solving isn't that straightforward, it will probably be an easy fix when you find it, but until then, its the type of fault that would drive you astray.

Most Fords have a earth point for a bundle of earth wires up around the battery box, if I'm not mistaken. So you can check the colour there .........

Just to let you know found the problem, wire connection was not plugged back in. Its separate to the circular connector loom. I was unable to connect it back together and had to run a new wire to the 4x4 solenoid that didn't go through the metal cover. But it appears to be working ok now again.

thanks for your help.
