It was announced on this evenings news that Nissan have said that if they don’t get tariff free access to Europe they will be cutting production at Sunderland.

Where are they going to make them then ?
Saffron Walden. Parish council going to give them a bung to open a factory. Then another bung when Nissan start blubbing about the weather. Then another bung whenever there's a full moon. Then they'll be wanting another bung if Bananarama get back together.

Th reality is that Nissan, being part of a larger three-way alliance of motor companies, will be allowed to move stock, parts or finished cars around across borders as they please because they are multinational. To try and impede Nissan from moving cars into the rest of Europe will only serve to hurt their interests and that of their partner companies, one of which is Renault.

These car companies are in for a world of hurt in the car markets going forward, the EU can bump their gums all they like but I would not be surprised if at least 1 of them does not even exist in 10-15 years.

Sunderland is not Nissans only manufacturing facility. They will make them at their most cost effective plants. If the U.K. price them out of the EU countries then the manufacturing will be moved into the EU.
More likely to return them back home and the far east, the car industry is going through monumental change many wont survive

That’s probably right but I would think that with Renault having a 40% share in Nissan they would be strongly trying to keep as much production in the EU as possible.

They could easily make the Qashqai at the Renault factory that makes its sister cars from the exact same Renault components.

Fiat-Chrysler to merge with PSA. They will all be going this way except the niche makers. You wait and see. Didn't realise Opel was French owned now.
General Motors have not only sold up and pulled out of Europe completely but also out of Australasia and all right hand drive countries everywhere. They no longer make any right hand drive vehicles. They have shut down their Australian factory and sold their European operations to PSA. All Opel/Vauxhall models are now made by PSA and some models have changed from being former GM designs to being PSA ones built in PSA factories with badge engineering. The current Corsa is one. Crossland and Grandland also. All the formerly Korean built models, such as the Adam, Viva and Antara and Mokka, plus a few others have been discontinued. Dumped.

It is almost inevitable that the Astra factory at Ellesmere Port will shut by the end of 2021 when the current range comes to an end. The Luton van factory may have another two years left but the integration of the two van ranges may put this in doubt. Up until recently Vauxhall/Opel vans have been partnered with Renault, which is a rival to PSA. Obviously there's no future in that.

Problem is with all these firms is that they are way behind on EVs. They are not selling any cars. I believe the Tesla Model 3 has been the best selling car in the UK for the last couple months.

There are also rumours of a Tesla factory in Somerset going around. Plus if you take in fleet sales and look at the BIK benefits of an EV to the employee, there is simply no contest. I think a lot of the main car makers are going to be in big trouble as Tesla has an unassailable lead.
