My mates ranger is giving him a head ache ! it will turn over on the key allday or unitl the battey goes flat and not start, however if you bump start it its away with in half the turn of a wheel and runs perfect after !! its been too 2 garages and both have failed to fix it, first garage had it pluged in has no errors etc etc fitted a fuel non return valve and changed filter head no better, second garage reckons its the injectors they have electrics on them but seems funny it runs ok when bump started ! any ideas ? my guess is electric stop playing up when key is turned full start but works with just ignition, I was going to test it for him by crossing the starter with a screw driver but couldn't get to the dammed thing ! didn't have much time mind. think its 07

injectors is suppose to be a common fault on them, @Cowabunga might know more
Yes, funny how it runs fine tho and will bump start just wont start on key, I would have thought if it were injectors it just wouldn't run at all ?? £600 for new ones so kind o needs to be sure it is them, first garage gave him a whopping bill and hasn't even fixed it !!

is starter cranking it fast enough .

Sound like something is not getting enough power when starter is cranked . Have you tried putting a jump start pack on ?

It turns over very good, im convinced something isn't getting electric when key turned fully on but ignition its working, hard to work on no space under the bonnet.

sounds like heater plugs or cold start or what ever the fudge they have now had a diahatsu exactly the same would turn over all day and not start bump it and it would fire straight away set of heater plugs and it was fine
He's just messaged me to say he's ordered a set as they are only 30 quid worth a try .

Not getting enough pressure at the injectors.Faulty injector pump or else the starter isn't turning it fast enough to give enough pressure. Common rail?

Injectors were fine on mine, fuel getting thru fine, would turn over all day, if I wasn't parked on a hill I'd just put it in gear and turn it over until it managed to jerk over to one???

If it's anything like our LR 90: wouldn't start with the key but a small push and off it went. Changed most fuel components, pump, filters, non return, pressure reg, injector seals. Then crank sensor.

What sorted it? New starter. Was getting a bit shonky and sending silly voltage spikes to crank sensor/ecu on turning so wouldn't start. Simples.

Try new battery, then starter.

As above, with Land Rovers, it's often the CPS not giving a correct signal whilst current is being supplied to the starter motor. See if you can read the live data from the CPS whilst cranking, using diagnostics, then compare it to the data whilst the engine is running. I'd put my money on that. Just try the battery though or try jump starting it. My mate has a BMW that will turn over for a long time at a reasonable speed, seems to have plenty of go in the battery, pointing to another fault, but putting a jump pack on it starts it straight away.
