As above, with Land Rovers, it's often the CPS not giving a correct signal whilst current is being supplied to the starter motor. See if you can read the live data from the CPS whilst cranking, using diagnostics, then compare it to the data whilst the engine is running. I'd put my money on that. Just try the battery though or try jump starting it. My mate has a BMW that will turn over for a long time at a reasonable speed, seems to have plenty of go in the battery, pointing to another fault, but putting a jump pack on it starts it straight away.
He tried today with a starter charger and no good.

nope, all they got was the engine wasnt letting diesel flow when cranking over as it wasnt fast enough for the dodgy sensor to sense it. abit like a stop solenoid retracting

Could be the stop solenoid, while cranking the power is being sapped enough to not work, while towing it has all the battery power so works.
That's my guess. like I say I wanted to cross the starter with a screw driver to test it but could get in to the bloody thing, they must be a total nightmare to work on !

Remove the plunger out of the stop solenoid and try it without.

I'm not saying it isn't that, but the stop solenoid is far less susceptible to being affected by interference while cranking, compared with a crank position sensor. Is the sensor anywhere near the starter motor or do the wires pass near each other?
