Running fine on a genny for a shortwhile then a little sort of 'clunk noise from forward area nothing else happened then 10 minutes later he just tailed off and stopped .

Usually very reliable and runs /starts fine ... on the odd jobs every now and then that he does

mind you he had not been used for awhile and when started revved out a bit scaryly :oops:when i started him calmed down after a stop and restart sort of like the throttle /governor on the point of starting was stuck 3/4 s open. which was abnormal.
cant see or here nothing wrong and he turns over well and smoothly on the battery.

Plenty of diesal in full tank and getting through lift pump (was a bity dirty mind you ) to the bleed nut on the top of the Simms pump but .... none at the injector pipe unions as being really the only thing that i can see thats out of order
Not done anything other than check diesal availablity ,......yet just thought i would ask first....

tia.

What type of inj pump, diaphragm or mechanical, if you have two pipes out of top rear of pump [diaphragm] check pipes where they go in on intake manifold they can crack, or diaphragm split.

Diaphragm pump ,i will check that ,thanks.

The pump with the cover off seems to be working ok outwardly , rack moving side to side freely and it is presented to the left initially for its correct engine starting position .
push rods/springs going up and down .
Timing hasn't moved on the drive as far as i can see.

plenty of airless diesel at the bleed screw at the top of the pump but consequently none out of the injector pipe unions when the engine s turned over .

The diaphragm is only there to control the rack through the vacuum created by the inlet airflow, the rack controls the pumping elements which control the amount of fuel, i can't believe that all four have gone down at once are you sure the lift pump screen is not blocked or diaphragm split in that.

No because the lift pump pushes diesel well , right to the top bleed screw on the injection pump .

Ive done nothing to it really yet but with the two vacuum pipes undone and fingers over the holes on the top of the pump there seems to be good pressure from the diaprgm as i slide the rack in
could be something else but theres not enough/hardly any diesal at the injector pipes and when the engine died there was no misfire or rough running, just a sudden and complete tail off then absolutly no fire in the slightest at all since .

iT was pretty mankey in the pump when i took the cover off mind you gunky rusty coloured crap around .
yet for all the springs go up and down when turning engine over ok it seems anyway.

You can unscrew pumping elements and be careful but by cleaning them with brake cleaner and air then put some diesel in them and see if they pump work with hands only take out one at time and put them back before you take next one out.

Not had much time to sort it but
I think its the Elements sticking or something, because theres no diesal pushed up into the injector pipes as the engine is turned over , even though the springs are moving up and down from the Cam shaft , not quite sure why they would all stick at the same time though .
mind you the pump /springs etc inside the cover does look a bit grotty

How do you go about taking the Elements out to service ?

There is no top to come off the pump just the check valve bit unscrews.

is it undoing the top 4 bolts and pull up the whole block
and also/ ,if so will it/can the elements be taken out without disturbing the screws etc that set them in place as i dont want to alter anything important that i cant get back right.
