You can get different strengths from 20% right up to 65%. The most common grades used on farm are 38:10 and 40:7.5

The first number is the formalin percentage and the second number is the methanol content (formalin is manufactured from methanol).

There is only 1 manufacture of formalin left in the UK now so its unlikely the product has changed unless labelled something different? What % dilution are you using?

Just had a look and it’s 40%, no mention of a methanol content.
Not that I want to go sniffing deliberately at it but it doesn’t smell as strong as usual in passing
We think our last ibc of formalin is not as good as normal. Lots of cows with foul and noticed it does not have any of usual smell in footbath. Like you don't want to give it a smell in the ibc. Ours is 40%, have started a new ibc and that seems like our normal one. Have contacted the manufacturer but not getting anywhere at the moment. They are saying no one else has had any issues, so it is interesting to hear others might be. It might be there is a bad batch.

I seem to recall Formalin decays with age, but may be mistaken. When was it manufactured and how long is the IBC open?
Started using it almost straight away after it was delivered, the time it takes to use will be roughly the same as anything I’ve bought before so it won’t have had any extra time to go off here, I have no idea when it was manufactured though or how long it had stood around before delivery.
