How strong a solution do you use? I've always used it at 5% but I've recently been told that's to weak. Had a lot of trouble with scald this year.
Also what's everyone else using? As formalin is being taken off the market next year! Are rep said Klingon blue but it's lot dearer than formalin
Zinc sulphate 10% solution there's no fumes of it either best leave them standing in it for a while an them on a clean yard for an hour after to dry in. It heals the foot instead of burning it like formalinAlso what's everyone else using? As formalin is being taken off the market next year! Are rep said Klingon blue but it's lot dearer than formalin
Well done. How have you managed such a reduction? Hard culling? How long has it taken to achieve this. Im guessing this is a closed flock.26 in 1000 that had scald. It used to be at least 50% that needed treatment.
Made up mine from the draining pen for the dipper, just put a lip of concrete up a few inches on the lower side to hold in the solution, set in a bung that can be pulled out for dippingWe don't have a setup for holding sheep in the footbath. Normally run through twice then leave to stand.

This can easily be done so think I'll give it a try. Thanksits worth getting a second bath if space will allow, and run through clean water first that's nice and deep, get any crap from between the clefts
I think a closed flock is the way forward with dealing with foot problems and many others but as we run nc mules its not an option.Closed flock for the last ten years.
It used to be that every ewe was put into the turning crate as that was quicker than looking for the ones sound on their feet.
The ewes with black hooves seemed less susceptible than yellow here (purely on observation, no science), so I started keeping replacements with this as one of the selection criteria. I culed anything that was persistently a problem, and didn't keep prodigy.
Using Micotil was also, I believe, a big factor in stopping the infection from spreading.
I was told by are agri supplier this week that it won't be available next year. Can anyone comment on the possibility of formalin being removed/banned as suggested? We use it and find it cheap and effective.
