Written by Michelle Martin from Agriland

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has appointed Sir David Lewis, former CEO of Tesco, as the UK government’s supply chain advisor.

In his new role, Lewis will advise the Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Duty of Lancaster on both immediate improvements and any necessary long-term changes to the UK supply chain for goods.

He will also work to resolve acute and short-term issues, including current blockages in the chain, such as the HGV driver and poultry staff shortages.

Lewis will also co-chair the new Supply Chain Advisory Group, consisting of external experts in the field, and the new Industry Taskforce, to ensure those on the ground have the opportunity to voice their concerns and advise on the most efficient resolutions.

Announcing the appointment, Prime Minister Johnson said:

“I’m pleased that Sir David Lewis is joining the team who have been working on future-proofing our supply chains across the United Kingdom as we recover from the pandemic.

There are currently global supply issues which we are working with industry to mitigate and Dave brings a wealth of experience which will help us continue to protect our businesses and supply chains.”

Lewis will take us his new role from Monday, October 11, running through until the end of the year.
