Foster D2P

Hi

New to the forum, I have an International 685 with front loader and was thinking about putting a Foster D2P on it, but not sure if the International is big enough for the D2P on the back of it . I know the D2P weighs 760kg, also are they any good for the job they are supposed to do i.e. what kind of tear out force.

Thanks for your reply ,is that the large red part at the top that looks like it can be adjusted, have you used one of these . I understand anything is better than a spade, but don't want to spend money if they are no good,

still have the tractor and the digger but they are divorced now.

I do tend to get a relative in with a mini digger but Fosters are still capable.

Thanks, like the add on to keep you dry, as I'm not a farmer will only be a fair weather digger operator. did you find that it had enough tear force when digging.

Yes, but make sure it's all there including the frame down onto where the bottom links attach.

Same as this one.

I had one some years ago I agree with above comments .You have to be very very careful it doesnt squash you against the tractor or breaks top link and it happens quickly. Its only good for light work, its no JCB

I have never used one, as I see things it would be awkward getting on and off to move tractor if cleaning out ditches
The return on IH is not filler plug
Make sure oil cooler and radiator and fan blade are clean

What do you mean by carful, what are the things to watch out for that are particular to this machine, crofter 65 do you know what caused the problem with the top link

The one I had just used a ordinary top link and I was using a old Fergie one and with all the jolting it broke under tension giving me a bit of whiplash. The one I see in the photo has a bracket I think this makes it more rigid to the tractor, the one I had floated with the three point linkage which put a lot of strain on the top link and not great for digging hard ground.

About 10 years or so ago when we were farming the local hedge brushing contractor told me he was going down the road and there was a bang
Something had broke inside top link on hydraulic top
It was second time it happened
It was a MF tractor can’t remember model but it was 55 or 56 registration

I spent a day on one, must be near 20 years ago now, an older gentleman had it on a 784 - he then had me shift the tractor about and move whilst he was still on it and the amount of near misses he had with the cab roof was enough to put me off them forever, no reach, no power - won’t dig into a dry ditch or lane.

Just hire in or rent a 3-5 ton 360. They belong in the dark ages for a reason.

It does put a lot of strain on the top link mounting. Better suited to something with lower link sensing, rather than draft control.

Well very interesting comments, so to sum it all up don't buy one they are crap and break your tractor, think I will save up and buy a 3 to 5 tonne digger as doing a bit of work over time. Once again thankyou for sharing your experiences good or bad it has stopped me from making a bad choice to save money.
