Fowrass concertina sheep hurdle

Has anyone bought any of these hurdles from Fowrass Fabrications?

Steel, obviously. But they're concertina - so they fold up like the aluminium mobile yards.

I'm well aware the aluminium hurdles will be 'better' - I've already got 105feet of aluminium hurdles, I'm just needing a couple extra hurdles for in the shed... they're £65 for 8 feet compared to £140 for aluminium 5 feet!

If anyone has them - verdict? And do the ends match up with aluminium mobile yard hurdles for pinning together?

I'm just an hour away from Fowrass at Penrith, so I could go see - but I'm just wanting anyone with experience using them opinions before I take it farther...

If the hole fits, most things can be forced

It's easier if buying new they just fit, mind.

Although maybe if I speak to them they'd take measurements of my hurdles and alter theirs?

Do any of you know what height they are?

I think they're 1 meter tall. My alligator hurdles are 3ft, so these will be 3-4inches taller.

If you only need a couple more, stick to what you have - no messing with fitting, better to move and they can fit in anywhere to your system.

And they won't be as strong or well made.

The eyes and tube look fairly tight fitting so there won't be hardly any leeway on uneven surfaces.
But that is also common with Ali ones. They look tidy, but are they heavy enough gauge to last, or will they fall apart like lambing hurdles do under frequent not very gentle use?

I spoke to them about them, they say that they are as strong as Ali hurdles, but haven't seen them in the flesh

They look ok, aluminium used to be rule of thumb, 3 or 4 x price of steel equivalent to do same job; so the price is about right.

On a mobile yard, used out in the field, it would be a job to better the Ali ones for ease of use. However, if you use them in a semi-permanent situation, such as handy folding hurdles in a shed, decent gauge steel ones would be better imo.

I have 3 Ali ones permanently in a shed behind my static pens, and they are the only ones that ever get twisted by (Charollais) sheep putting pressure on them. Some heavy steel ones would be far better there, where weight isn’t so much of an issue, but where they still need to slide.

this looks such a brilliant and simple idea for making a combi clamp mobile! Without the hassle of tipping it over and having to wobble it around to get ramp and races lined up!
