It is sad to read of the accidental shooting of a child's pony, but no excuse for the veiled suggestion that everyone who controls a serious predator of livestock is a "clown". It seems that after the event, the shooter did everything he should have done.

Is everyone who drives a car and has an accident, also a clown? Accidents are not intended -- but they happen. That's why they are called accidents. Farmer basher jumping on the band wagon again? It is only a news item because accidents like this are so rare.

I had a big lamb shot, in the bottom of a hedge once, on some rented ground.
Shot by some yahoos that rode around in a land rover with a settee in the back, and who the landowner allowed on.
There are some effing idiots out at night, as well as the responsible ones.

'and left for dead 30 yards from her front door-'

Is the suggestion that the guy was firing a rifle at something that was within 30 yards of a house?

Lampers do concern me as I am sure some just shoot at the reflecting eyes before they identify what the eyes belong to.
