Foxtrot/Oskar or axial

I'm going to need to treat my spring barley for wild oats and I was wondering if theres much of a saving by using foxtrot instead of axial.

I've never used foxtrot before is it as safe and kind to the crop as axial?

Tell me about it.

My barley is at 3 leaf stage and what outs are up are 1 leaf so I'm thinking 0.75 would nail them.

I've heard it can make the crop look yellow and sick at 1lt.

Foxtrot label. Oskar is made by Headland FMC as well, so the label is pretty much the same.

It's around £45/ha saving at full rate to £18ish at half rate

Needs to be done while the WO's are small, so early tillering time before stem extension, use on it's own with no oil @0.8ltr/ha, apply on it's own and usual anti stress measures

*i am not an agronomist*

I've not used it for a while, but I have annoying patches of Wild Oats appear so will apply this year as I've reduced my SB pre ems over the last 4 years from Avadex, liberator and Crystal to nothing, so thought covering the Oats at £12- 13/ha wasn't too extravagant after that saving !!

I'm planning to roll mine early next week, Foxtrot the following week and then it's a week or so to the first Fungicide and blw spray

Axial is a stronger product that can be used later but is eye wateringly expensive !!

Thanks that's just what I wanted to hear and means I was thinking along the right lines.

Would you dare mix it with liquid MN???? I want to get some onto my barley and it would be an ideal time to do the foxtrot at the same time.

The label says 7 days between other applications so it should fit in quite well with a su/hormone blw spray and T1.

I personally wouldn't mix it with anything, not even MSO!!

False economy imo, can really clobber SB hard especially with this dry cold wind we have which is sure to be stressing crops atm.
Totally agree that Axial cost is hard to stomach but it’s not worth knocking a crop so sensitive as SB at a time when it needs to be growing strong.

Would foxtrot/Oscar do much on Italian ryegrass?
Been taking it out in one field with axial in recent years but as said it’s eye wateringly expensive especially at the 0.45l/ha rate required (old formulation)

I find Foxtrot to be an excellent product. Used at 0.75l on barley and nails even the bigger oats in WB. Have used 1l in ww.

Always used as a stand alone application even when having some trace elements to go on. Need a week before anything else.
Cost effective control for Wild Oats,

I spray my ryegrass seed crops with oskar/foxtrot for rough stalk meadow grass occasionally, using a mineral oil aswell. I can confirm it will not touch your Italian ryegrass. I also use it on my undersown spring barley with no problems.

I have also with reccomendation from a agronimist applied foxtrot with barleyquat b and mensa on a contract job over the years with no obvious problems in spring barley at 3 leaf growth stage.

I think it is a bit early to be treating wild oats in SB in a dry spring. Many late wild oats will not have germinated yet. Axial Pro is expensive but you can combine it with BLW control and trace elements. Equally I think there is a synergy on AMG with axial and Ally max type products. Oskar, Mensa and Barleyquat B..... sounds routine and expensive(ii)ve..... well not the wild oat control but what will come after!
