Yes, it is their job under both their own law and 'international law' - which doesn't exist - meaning due to their EU and other treaty obligations.

Err... yes, the UK can return the illegal immigrants if it chooses to do so, it's merely political cowardice / expediency preventing our Government from doing so; you really need to read up on the 'international law' surrounding it. (y)

You voted Brexit to take back control of your borders, get on with it then.

I agree entirely, but... as you find even in that singular jewel of human creations - the EU - politicians are sometimes incapable or unwilling to do what needs to be done.

Fortunately, for us anyway, a democratic 'sword of Damocles' ever hangs over their heads over here and, as you, I and others have written before, they now have absolutely no 'get out'.

So, the matter is simple and binary: either they will do what's required of them or they will be binned, and it's as simple as that, well, it is in a democracy anyway...(y)

The problem is all the bleeding hearts that demand we save them, if a few sank they might stop comin, perhaps we should send the hse bods over there to inspect the boats, would cure the problem overnight

Maybe several thousand of us should do the same and go the other way.
Bet we'd be intercepted and towed back to Dover.
Not sure about that - meaning us, but if you reversed the situation and the UK had large gangs of undocumented, illegal migrants transiting through the country and while waiting to transit - playing football in the car parks of Dover - like they do in Calais and camping rough in full view of the authorities while getting involved in petty crime, they would be caught, processed and either sent back home or allowed to stay until their asylum application has been processed in line with law (Not 100% sure if its international law but certainly it was EU law which we are still following). Our coastguard and other authorities would monitor the coastline and migrants trying to get to France would be apprehended before they could get a mile out to sea, they would be brought back. I really don't think and I sincerely hope that we as a nation would not allow them to cross to our neighbours in France, when all is said and done we do tend to follow the rules and do the decent thing here in the UK.

You think so? Isn't there are real problem with certain groups of society running roughshod over the police as it is? Some parts of the UK where the police are reported to be loathe to go to recover stolen property, even when there is definitive evidence it is in the 'camp'? Don't see much evidence that we get them 'caught, processed' etc. even although a sizable portion of them may have accents and number plates which suggest they could be immigrants.

Yes, thinking about it you are quite correct - I take your point but I do still think people transiting through would not be allowed to transit to France in rubber boats from these shores especially if the French had been bending our ears about it for some years.

I don't think we perhaps see what effort that France put in to the issue and assume that they're doing nothing. Wasn't it that long ago they raided and shut down a whole refugee camp? they won't doing nothing, that's for sure, but could perhaps be doing more.

Of course now that we (the UK voting population, not you and I) decided we wanted to sever trade and other links with them, they might not have as much motivation to help a friend and partner - so who could blame them for reducing their discretionary efforts thereafter?
