It won't be rubbish but far from a young silage Ley. I'm going to make some calls today see who else locally would take it, I was just really surprised to have to pay someone to take it.

Just business, chap probably knows you need to offload so is trying it on.
Say thanks but no thanks and move on to someone else.

As an aside large squares will be easier to move a distance if need be I would think.

You have charged for a service which sounds like removal of bales
Which I would have added a disposal at compost centre plus transport sounds like your man wants a share of it

Airport perhaps?
I remember once flying into an airport in Germany where they were baling grass at the edge of the runway. There was mass of Fendt tractors mowing, rowing up and baling. However, they weren't all working on the same patch at the same time, and the grass seemed to have dried to haylage.
