If it's recycled then in Wales should not be used as bedding and definitely not spread to land only virgin wood also soaks up nitrogen to break it down not to mention the metals in some of it

So if it can't be burnt, can't be spread and can't be bedded on what are farmers using it for ?

I know wood like any om addition will tie up N short term but that doesn't make om addition a bad thing ! (As long as legal)

I'm not sure if everyone that uses it is aware that it can't be spread on the land.

Why else would it be free?

Use it for bedding if you like its a good bedding but then should go to land fill

one hell of a risk surely ! if your land is contaminated then you would end up with massive EA fines and no longer be able to produce food on it ?

Its not like there wouldn't be an audit trail from the supplier that showed where it went

For the avoidance of doubt;

In brief, the grades are:
  • Grade A: “Clean” recycled wood – material produced from pallets and secondary manufacture etc and suitable for producing animal bedding and mulches.
  • Grade B: Industrial feedstock grade – including grade A material plus construction and demolition waste, this is suitable for making panelboard.
  • Grade C: Fuel grade – this is made from all of the above material plus that from municipal collections and civic amenity sites and can be used for biomass fuel.
  • Grade D: Hazardous waste – This includes all grades of wood including treated material such as fencing and trackwork and requires disposal at special facilities.
For it to fall outside waste regulation requires compliance with this http://www.woodrecyclers.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/PAS111.pdf

The position statement from the EA http://www.360environmental.co.uk/documents/Guidance on the use of waste wood.pdf
