I have a fresh heifer calved 10 days thats not right, milked ok for first 2 days but since then no appetite or milk. she's been checked by Vet in middle of the week, no da, rumen very slow, no pneumonia, no heart problems, slightly dirty uterus which was treated with metricure. she was drenched with pro cud rumen srimulant, glycol and yeast for 3 days but as of this evening no improvement and no appetite...

any ideas?????

We have a jerky(jersey cross),same as you describe, vet diagnosed a swinging rumen. She was ketotic on blood test, drenched propylene glycol, yeast and mins.Taken two weeks for milk to start to rise.

Acidiosis? Had a similar situation with a fc hfr two years ago. Vet suggested a DA, but we treated for acidiosis with p+s, fresh hay and straw. Did the trick and kept her alive. Although she didn't milk as well as expected in that lactation.

quick update- operated on her this morning for an lda and pumped with fluids but it is most likely due to the lack of appetite this week, still no idea what it was originally! fingers crossed!

It's quite possible for LDA's to slip in and out by themselves so it may have just been unfortunate timing that when the vet first saw her her abomasum had slipped back under the rumen. There was probably still another underlying reason why she wasn't eating though for it to be out in the first place.

we don't even know whats wrong with.

we spent a lot of money on a heifer 4yrs ago with no specific symptoms. she died, turned out at post mortum to be cancer. Those sorts of animals with nothing obviously wrong usually have seriously underlying problems.
Get rid.
Each to his own I suppose, had a fresh calved heifer where I worked, took 3 weeks to diagnose a lda, once operated on never looked back, went on for years a very good cow.

If she got a lda it’s because of a poor transition after calving. Maybe have a quick review of how transition is going. Usually for every clinical problem there are lots of costly sub clinical cases.

Or that she just didn’t have an LDA yet.
