Looking for the best way to do some friesian steers on a mainly silage based diet. Looking to run them on to being bigger beast as I’ve not got the grain to fatten as bulls but I’ve plenty silage.
was thinking maybe 1-2kg of cake a day? Is anyone else on with this?

It all depends on the age of them.....? But rough guide I'd be giving them 2kg of cake each end of the day.

Silage and couple kgs of cake or barley or a mix of the too will be fine. That’s what we do with ours then at 18month ish depending on time of year they get tmr grass silage Maize silage and 4-5kgs of rolled wheat
Do you fatten and finish or send them as good stores?

They'l do fine on that, just add some mins. Cheap and cheerfull winter ration that will do your job even if the silage is very average
