Front hopper build

We need another large front hopper so after looking for ages for a suitable hopper we found another Accord Exata TL fert spreader which are an ideal size and shape . This one was in excellent condition and full working order so probably a bit to good to strip down but still cheaper than building a hopper from scratch . We’re going to build this over the next few months so I will update photos as we progress . Specs for this one will include twin accord metering units with twin motor RDS Artimis radar controller, intergrated small seed hopper with either a third Artimis motor or an RDS Wizard controlle. We will be using a Carrara hyd fan the same as Weavings use on their drills as they are really good powerful units .

All our hoppers need a light upgrade so will be looking for some good LED lights . The boys also want better steps/ platforms to stand on and also toolbox storage . So quite abit to think about . Accord parts for sale of anyone wants any spares .

Bob. Just a thought but having seen the alpego put a shut off slide above the metering device in the bottom of the hopper so with the hopper full you can still clean out the metering device by opening the cat flap at the front if you get a bit of bag in or it’s getting clogged with damp Fert. Other thing is some form of fast emptying flap on the hopper so if you need to change over it doesn’t all have to go through the metering device, also a Perspex window in the hopper so you can see what’s going on (poor mans camera) and last but not least a window a multi coloured tab on the metering device rotor so again you can see it’s going round, I know the RDS screen has sensors and alarms on this but again peace of mind.

Hi , putting a slider in to shut the seed/fert is a good idea as fert can be a problem if left in for any length of time . For seeing in the hoppers we have a camera on a magnet so it can be positioned in the tank or on the front for looking out of junctions . I going on a shopping trip to Weavings tomorrow to pick up the RDS kit and the fan assembly. RDS no longer sell Anything apart from Artimis Light to the general public which is a pain but Weavings are happy to supply a complete kit .

To be fair when they used to run dustributors north and south it was really good but as they fell by the wayside your better dealing with weaving I know from experience financially your no worse off they are fitting these kits all the time so know the tricks and RDS through no fault of there own aren’t structured to support you. Other option would possibly by LH Agro but again put a package for a load of bits together with Weaving’s and you’ll get as good a deal as anywhere and then they’re inside when you need abit of advice. I do the sane with them, Tim smith and Andy guest depending on what I’m after when I have one of these rushes of blood to the head and decide to build!!

This is a great idea. Have you tried using the spreaders metering slides to drop fertiliser into a Venturi then you would not need anything else other than a fan and a couple of Venturi’s I know would only work on fertiliser not accurate enough for seed

I know a contractor / dealer in NZ who was doing this 15 years ago with weigh cell KRM spreaders feeding maize drills. It worked well at high rates of flow but the accuracy at lower rates wasn’t as good as a metering device could achieve.

I never thought to deal with Weaving for the RDS parts 👍

Did you go for another isobus kit? Will you be installing it yourself?
Hi , our two existing hoppers are fitted with the original Artimis with the ps8000i screen this is our first one with the new touch screen . We will fit this ourselves it actually looks simpler than the old kit . Weavings are really helpful when it comes to parts .

Fitted a couple to drills, if i remember you conect your control mod then run your main lead to your distribution head and your sensors are daisy chained round and then back to the control mod, program what sensor is on what row.

Finally got back in the workshop and a bit more work on the front hopper.first job was to remove the flanges from the bottom of the hopper that held the spreader slides and replace them with the one we made to hold the Accord metering units. We weren’t sure about the orientation of the units as on this hopper we’re using horizontal venturis rather than the standard vertical ones . In some of the pics you will notice that the venturis are at the front but after a bit of buggering about and machining we modified them so they were handed and could be mounted so as they were at the sides which makes calibration easier. Next job is to mount the fan and as we have modded the venturis it can now go right in the middle between the two units and this will make the pipe work a lot neater .
